Chrysanthemums also go by the name of ‘Garden Mums’ are native to Asia and offer a wonderful bouquet of multi petalled pom pom style flowers that range from bright pinks to a pale yellow, from a fluorescent orange to an angelic white. Chrysanthemums are not winter hardy and thrive best during the autumn months. Gardeners tend to plant these within their beds, borders or containers during the late summer through into the autumn as they seemingly compliment other autumn flowering specimens such as ornamental grasses or even a salvia. Chrysanthemums thrive when in a water retentive soil allowing for plenty of drainage in ideally a full sun position however, Chrysanthemums will tolerate a partial shaded area. Growing in a dense shrub style we recommend taking care when it comes to watering as the dense nature of this during any warm humid weather might cause botrytis. Chrysanthemums are beautiful and versatile plants that can add vibrant colour to your garden, especially in late summer and autumn and will reach a potential height of 30cm with a spread of 40cm.
