Salvia Caradonna is often included in a gardener's top ten list of summer blooms. Masses of upright violet-purple flowers will appear in early summer and last through to autumn, creating a carpet of deep colour either within a border or as a backdrop to smaller border plants. The grey-green foliage is lightly scented and will last through to the first frosts. Salvia Caradonna is very low maintenance, just requiring watering in the hot summer months, and if time permits deadheading to prolong the flowering period. They thrive in hot sunny positions but will tolerate partial shade, as long as the soil is moist and well drained and can be grown in containers for a splendid display on patios and gravel gardens.
